no one uses conduit in residential wiring my friend... it's a lot more expensive and un-necessary. A typically 2 x 4 is 3.5 inch, half is 1.75 inch. You just need to drill in the middle of the 2 x 4. Wiring going thru stud is considered supported.

Or if you do going thru at less than 1.25 inch to the edge, just install steel plate. They are 25 cents each... Way cheaper and faster than running B/X wires.

just use long flexible bit. It can be 6 feet long.... After you drill, just put the wire at the end and pull it back...

It is to code, secure to wood every 1.5m and within 30cm of the fixture. I leave it loose in between as recommended by the book.
