Most of MP3 player has line-in jack and recorder/codec feature. Just connect the tape player with a MP3 player and record, you will get MP3 digital files. Digital format is better for keeping a while than a analog tape.

questioncan i do it with my HP iPac? I am also not sure if my old tape player has accessories for connections.

Not sure about HP iPac. Sorry about it. I have a Creative MP3 player that come with a record cable for recording from any audio source and codec to MP3 file.
