枫下家园 / 爱车一族 / I am comparing Fort Taurus SE and Toyota Camry LE, which one is better? I seems Taurus has more features, please give me some advice if you have experience with these cars. Thanks in advance.

Talking about 2001 models? For older ones, I think
Camry is absolutely better. As usual, American cars are notorious
for their short-lived engine. Some Ford Taurus get engine rebult
after some 60K miles/5 years.

Thanks. You are absolutely right, but one of my dealers told me the quality of American cars has been improved dramatically these years. How do you think about it?

The car I talked above is 1995 Taurus. At least I found 2 Taurus
with engine problems. Dealer's words were partially true. But you
know, you can never trust any of their words.

Ford Taurus always has some transmission problems, not engine. And, those Yankee cars after 1995 are not that bad comparing with Jap cars. But,as we all know, people makes their decision not based on the quality of the car itself, but something else.

Agree. For a better life, those nice features
play a role, not the lifetime of a car. The ONLY reason I am
driving an old HONDA is because I am not rich. Engine is my
full concern.

I'm driving a Ford Taurus SE 2001, It's a very nice, quiet car. I don't think its quality is worse than Camrey.

Ford Taurus has very good reputation for its safety and comfortable room, but poor expected resale value. Here some people get really crazy of Jap cars. Someone asked me 9000 bucks for his 1990, 140k km Camry. That is why so many people want to buy a Jap car.

If one plans to own a new car for <3 years, not buy a JAP!
If one plans to buy a used car after 5 years, not buy a Yankee;
If one determines to own the car lifetime, JAP is favored.

Everybody is talking about used car, but I really want to buy a new car. Maybe 5 years later, American used cars have more resale value than Japanese used cars, who knows.
