thesedays, UNIX admin needs to know application/database admin... the rate varies... if you know really well a particular UNIX plus some popular applications/dbs, I believe $80 is not asking for trouble.

真是狮子张口啊,permenant 8万很高了,我的朋友都是5万五,到6万之间,而且都是大公司,象是rogers什麽的.我自己也干这行的,AIX CATE,CE -HACMP,Soalris SCSA, SCNA,对Oracle 也很熟,找了很久都没找到工作,Unix Admin现在空缺职位很少,因为职位相对稳定.

Oracle is too common. It's not 80K, it's 80 per hour. You sold yourself cheap.

对于contractor的年薪，不能简单的拿时薪乘上2000小时得出年薪。因为你没有考虑bench time的存在。

on a pure income base, contract:perm = 0.67:1.0, that's about that rate.

如果真要比较，这中间有很多不定因素。比如contract能不能延续一年以上，比如perm的具体福利因公司而异，比如税务优势，等等。不过粗略来讲，perm的帐面收入应该相当于1。2到1。5倍的contractor收入。比如6万的perm大约相当于$35到$40的contractor.

and you'd better to be familiar with storage system such as SAN, BCV, SRDF... and experience of performence tuning from application level to HW level... Sometimes, the extensive of experience is required.

not any more, DBA's salary is decreasing nowadays, I know lots UNIX admin are OCP as well.
