if u r over 30 and have no automobile experience, seriouly, I advise u not to jump in this career.it will take u years to be a competetive mechanic and the tooling will cost u a lot of money. as I know, a certified mechnic at Canadian Tire makes 22$/h.

it is a hard job.not only u need to know how auto works,but also u need to get skilled enough by practice as an apprentice. this will take u several years. once you get started, it is hard for u to regret and decide to switch to other careers, since u have spend your valuable time on it.
think about how to remove a pump on a old, rusty engine of a old car, in 1 hour, with such little space...
u may consider it, if u love to repair autos, or if u have relavent experience.
