终生教授应该是五年左右。以助理教授的名义加入，三年的试用期，五年评终生，为副教授。薪水应该在十万左右。
公司和学校的工作性质完全不同。如果极其喜欢自由和研究的人，会选择学校。

Please note that only the professors whose salary are more than 100K are listed. According to government rules,people working in public institutions( including government) whose salary are more than 100K are required to disclose their salary. There are still lots of professors earning under 100K.

据我所知,在加拿大, 从assistant professor升到 associate professor至少需要4年的时间(美国是6年). 多大计算机系喜欢招收普林斯顿的PH.D. 如果你的朋友是从那里毕业的, 可能性大一些.

忘了说了, 终身教授一般要晚于副教授, 时间的长短取决于个人的水平, 成果. 多大计算机系一共只有2个华人副教授.

感谢！！可惜不是普林斯顿的。据USNEWS排的前四名是MIT，加州柏克利，斯坦福，卡麦基梅隆。他已没有绿卡身份的担忧，只想进好一点的学校，多大在美国能排进前20名或Tier-1(前50名)吗？assistant professor ---(4年)---> associate professor ---(2年)---> 终身教授？

of course. 多大应该可以排进美国的15-20名. 如果从计算机的水平讲,普林斯顿最好. 你的朋友可以到那些大公司做作博士后, 这样在申请时就更有优势.
