我估计A字头公司的电话都被人打烂了,从那些前台说话的口气我就能听出来。有一个我才问他能不能留个contact,他马上说我们不找software development, NEVER EVER,吓得我赶紧撂电话

But it increases your chance to land a job. For those failed contacts treat them as language practices. You will get better and better after each call. Try to find some ways to outsmart those receptionists.

Thanks for your encouragement. When the receiptionist says they don't have openings, they really don't have it, right? in this case, I don't have to insist to have my call transfered to a technical manager, right?

Not really. The manager is the one who knows whom, when they need. The key of cold call is to find that manager in charge and then contact that person directly thereafter.At your first call, you can say: "I would like to send my resume through fax. Could you please tell me to whom should I write attention?". This is one way to get around receptionist.
Follow up call is equally important. "Hello Ms. xxx, my name is yyy, I sent my resume 2 weeks ago, just like to follow up with you to see if you've had a chance to take a look at it?"
Don't believe the receptionist. She just wants to get you off her face. The manager's word is final.

偶打cold call的时候,有个公司说他们到2004年都不可能招人,还有的公司说正在laid off,砍人要砍到christmas(那时5/6月份),有的公司说只有他一个人和一个part time的员工,不招人。@@

我知道你那是去年的事,绝对不容易;我这次打很多过去直接就是voice mail,是不是那公司小得只有一个人了;另外你是不是想尽办法让receptionist转到technical manager那里?

有时人家给转到HR,有时不转,就说不要人,不过,偶打得不多,一起workshop的有一个打了600个,找到工作,不是IT的,也有打三个电话人家就要的,反正IT的人家态度特差,可能打得人多了。

注意啦,偶觉得你自己的态度是很重要的,别让他们影响你,真的,想想假如你处在他们的位置对无数抄一口怪腔的电话会不会不耐烦?当然会的,所以不要把别人的冷漠当根葱,想着有朝一日位置倒过来你....,这样就好了。
