base on your post you don’t even know what sump pump is for. It is connected to weeping tile. Its main use is to drain excess water around your property during heavy rainfall.

I build houses and I know Toronto building code and construction method well enough to say what you said about pump for well water does not apply to any Toronto home. It is for cottage with no water supply.

Sump pump in Toronto home is only use to pump excess water during heavy rain fall and it is connected to outdoor drain for walk out basement plus weeping tile. It is NOT for you to take a shower or wash cloth.
