Big banks are dropping like flies.
Which is good news for their relatively wee-in-size competitors. CDs (short for certificates of deposit) have long been a safe haven for investors looking to keep their cash relatively liquid and still earn some interest. CDs’ more digital counterparts, online savings accounts, are also increasingly popular.
Here, from Bankrate, are some of the best CD rates out there, from some lesser-known providers.
High Yield Rates for 1-year CD
1) Washington Mutual, rate: 4.89%, minimum deposit: $1,000.*
2) Geauga Savings Bank, Newbury, OH, rate: 4.61%, minimum deposit: $60,000
3) Corus Bank, Chicago, IL, rate: 4.55%, minimum deposit: $10,000
4) Pacific Mercantile Bank, Costa Mesa, CA, rate: 4.40%, minimum deposit: $10,000
5) VirtualBank, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, rate: 4.35%, minimum deposit: $10,000
High Yield Rates for 3-year CD
1) Discover Bank, New Castle, DE, rate: 4.65%, minimum deposit: $2,500
2) Omni National Bank, Atlanta, GA, rate: 4.64%, minimum deposit: $5,000
3) OnBank, Oakfield, NY, rate: 4.62%, minimum deposit: $500
4) State Bank of India, New York, NY,** rate: 4.60%, minimum deposit: $5,000
5) Intervest Natl Bk, New York, NY, rate: 4.59%, minimum deposit: $2,500
Honorable mention: GMAC Bank, Midvale, UT, rate: 4.26% a 1-year CD and the interest rate jumps to 4.40% with the 3-year. Both require only a minimum deposit of $500.
*It’s technically 13-month CD and is still being offered. According to JP Morgan, all Wamu products will still be honored.
**We have no clue why there’s a State Bank of India in New York.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
