International politics has been changing all the time.

During WWII Germany and Japan were enemies of USA; After the war ended these two countries became important allies.

In the 1960s/70s USA loss tens of thousands soldiers in Vietnam fighting against Viet-Cong. Nowadays Viet-Cong is considering to lend a ex-Soviet navy base to USA.

In the 1940's USA aided an anti-government force in China; A few years later they were bitterly defeated by the same force in Korea. Nowadays the leaders of this force send their money as well as family members to reside in USA.

    • The first terrorist attack to WTC happened in 1993. However, President Clinton ignored it without any proactive and preventive actions. This led to the 2001 attack.
      • in my memory, Clinton responsed them after months by launching a missile to a Afghanistan mountain area, but there was little media to report and comment it.
        • Really? I doubt one missile is enough to resolve the issues.
          • Clinton had already had some info about Ben Laden, and Ben Laden escaped the attack. It'd been hard to explain why he was eligible to do that, after all, US did not claim war to Afghanistan.
            • Typo. Bin Laden. :)
              • thanks for your correction. +1
            • Oh dear... Beautifully written except "Did not claim war to Afghanistan. People say "declare war " in plain English.
