If I am correct your roof is framed using roof trusses. Roof trusses are engineered to distribute the weight load of the roof to the exterior walls of the house. They are typically 22.5 inches apart. Under Ontario Building Code we are not permitted to cut any section of a roof truss without the permission of a civil engineer. Cutting any section of a roof truss weakens the entire structure and could cause the roof (and ceiling) to settle downward. Correcting such a problem is very expensive.
报价分两种情况,一种是屋顶是framed using roof trusses,报价超过1万;一种是conventionally framed (not framed using roof trusses),报价是将近8千。
关于这个building code和到底skylight要不要permit的问题,我问了来报价的三家公司,第一家和第三家都说不要;第二家笑了笑,说theorically if you cut a truss you need to have the permit, but a lot of people do so without the permit。
