本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Some friends asked about the process of becoming open group master certified architect. It is not hard, but it does take time. Here are some tips:
1) prepare the certification package. here is the template:
http://www.opengroup.org/itac/cert/docs/ITAC_Level_2_template_2.3.doc
Fill in the forms using plain language. assuming the readers do not have any IT knowledge - meaning your grandma (if she speaks English) can understand easily and feel you have done something important. The 3 project profiles are important. Pick the most relevant work products in the chosen methodology and fit them into profiles. Avoid any vendor technology. To me, i should have never mentioned particular cisco or avaya technology; to application architects, you should never let java or .net play a big role. focus on methodology and business impact. Focus on the broadness of your experience, not so much in the depth.
2) prepare for the interviews
after the screening process, you will be contacted for 3 interviews - tough ones by board members. 1 hour each. They probably do not possess the domain knowledge, they probably know nothing of programming or pretending not knowing, but they will ask questions you do not expect, and you would be surprised. Some expected questions are about why you chose these profiles, why you chose this method rather than that, why you use this work product, why you say it this way, why your English is so poorly written, who is your sponsor, who is your mentor, did you ever work directly for an executive before. From two of the 3 interviews, i got the comments that my package was among the most beautifully written they have ever seen.
3) before 1 and 2, prepare yourself the following things:
-find a mentor, who is the board member; find a sponsor, who has some cloud
-mentor at least 3 people
-in an architect role for 4 years, led at least 3 projects that has some major business impact
-complete necessary trainings in PM, methodology, consulting
-submitted enough intellectual capitals to the community
Get at least 2 months of time to go through this. This is not fun. I would not have done it myself, if not because according to the company policy, I had to pass this certification within two years or otherwise I will be fired.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
