and i think in Ontario building code, it could have same restriction, in any case, you should leave reasonable room around the furnace to facilitate the maintenance or installation when it is necessary.

suggest you make the window in different shape. if the windows is 24 x 12, build the wood frame 5 0r 6 inches bigger where connect to the wood frame on dry wall. it have a great 3D look. the windows look much bigger and the basement collect more light.
The water pipe in picture #4 if it is a "cold water pipe"
In my opinon, it is better insulate it before put up the dry wall

Dry wall 做成斜的, 难度是有些. the "Pape type dry well corner" is the prefect things to use in this application, no nail is needed "
Actually. instead use 2x4 to build a "Dry wall box" behine the dry wall. ply wood alos a good stuff to use to build the box. The "dry wall box " that used to cover up the air duct I used ply wood, instead of 2X4
Using ply wood is build "dry wall box " is much easier.
I did not make such window in my basement project. the window is large enough. but I did a lot of non 90 degree drywall turns (some picture in the link for those who interest to it)
