No matter how much you know about business and technology, appearance is always the most important thing. Appearance is king. You don't have to look handsome, but have to look smart.

Be a big picture guy. There are always people knows more than you in any technical field, even though you may have 4x CCIE's. Never pretend to know it all, because, at the end, it will just make you look stupid. Talk methodology, let people know the train of thinking, show them the logic, always bridge a technical solution to business requirement. When you are in newtorking, use terms from software development methodology like use cases and rational rose, and vice versa. People won't know what you are talking about, but will be amazed by how broad of knowledge you have.

Write short, concise and to the point messages. Never put forward an issue without giving a solution. Especially when copying your boss.
