2. If price sensitive, forget Japanese cars. Plenty of American mid-size cars in the market. It is also very hard to get a good price from the dealer, a $7000-8000 private deal might cost you $2000 more.
3. Check the references & narrow down your model, you have to focus on something, donot tanglo between Volvo/Benz & Tauraus
4. To my knowledge, Tauraus/Sable (twin car) are the best selling mid-size for many yrs (2 together > Carmary or Accord), so huge amount of 95-97 Tauraus in the market, & it is a pretty reliable one generally, try to get a 97 if possible since 96 is the first yr of introducing the new model.
& it's very well equiped, almost everything standard
Buick also has not bad reputation & usually driven by seniors, who are conservative drivers
5. Several personal tips, might be wrong
find one with the first owner as a Car Rent co., mostly highway mileage for such cars. I believe 100K highway is better than 500K city
since it's about 100K, if the seller has maintenance records, that would be great.
Better 1-2 owners only, a problem car usually changs hands quickly
6. Absolutely need a mechanic to check it & better test drive for you. Laoxi's comment works here.
