本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Jean, my next-door neighbor, is a retired nurse living on her own. She is divorced and no kids. Maybe because of the loneliness, she often drops by to say ‘Hi’. If she finds out I am not very busy, she will try to chat a big longer.
Once she invites me to her house to watch ‘Notting Hill’, which stars Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant. I have never seen this movie. But she already watched 14 times. She tells me that she is crazy about Hugh Grant and she wants to watch it again with me.
After pouring two glasses of coke with vodka, we find ourselves each a comfortable spot and start watching.
Every time, when she sees Hugh Grant showing up on the screen, she whistles, claps her hands and screams ‘Isn’t he cute, isn’t he handsome…?’ When she sees Julia Robert, she would say: ‘She is so ugly, her mouth is big enough to eat him’. All of these make me laugh like a drain.
When the movie comes to the scene when the heroine is asked how long she is planning to stay in England and she says ‘indefinitely’. Jean stands up from her chair clapping her hands…screaming…‘yeah…she is going to stay…’.
What an experience! She is at my mom’s age and I can’t imagine if my mom acts like that. Aren’t we taught since we are very small that do not express our feelings, no matter it is happiness or sadness? Aren’t we taught that we should act in accordance with our age?
