本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛我都31了,已经移民但落地后即返回国内工作,现在到了该决定的时候了.
3选1:
1. 现有一机会,可以明年1月入学去英国一学校读一年的软件工程硕士.该校英国排名64,准备今年下半年去加申请枫叶卡,年底返回国内等签证英国留学.学费7000英镑.生活费一年3000英镑. 可每周打工20小时。每小时4英镑最低。如坚持打工可解决生活费问题。
选该方案的理由是
a、读书时间短,而且马上就能读。
b、学的内容是JAVA为主的服务器端开发等使用技术、非存理论的软件工程，指望能毕业后去加较短时间(半年)找到专业工作,然后申请老婆孩子团聚.
c、因为自己在国内的本科非名牌大学，认为读一个国际认可的学位有助于经后在加的长期发展，否则即使找到专业工作，后劲不足。
d 读个海外学位出来，将来即使回国，也算得上是留学归国人员。
e 自己英语不过硬，通过此方式提高英语特别是专业英语水平。提高综合能力。
但缺点是费用太高，怕到时候读出来没有什么用，而且老本也没有了。

2. 直接去加找工作,
自己信心不足,虽然有近10年国内工作经验,但搞得比较杂,系统管理\网络管理多一些.英语又很一般.系统方面仅仅是微软平台的.软件开发也是微软平台.怕找不到专业打LABOR,把专业给荒废了.

3. 去加后根据情况再申请读书担心周期拖得太长,申请再加读书3年总要,老婆孩子还等我安定后申请团聚,边读书的话老婆不愿来受苦.

英国排名64的大学, 世界上也就没有几个人知道了.一年内,有想学专业,又想连阴雨,还打算打工挣钱,是根本不可能的事情.

I landed in Toronto in March last year,came to Britain in Sep. last year.

Now,I am studying for Master degree of Accountancy in a ranking 20 university.If I study in Canada,no such a good major for my interest,it is too narrow to choose.I am not sure how about your major in Canada.

But,it is definitely difficult to enter in a Canadian university,since too many immigrants want to do it.Therefore,too much competition,even for any ordinary university.Furthermore,reputation of education in Britain is better than Canada.

Only one disadvantage,money,of course it is much more expensive than that in Canada.Noticeably,you will know how busy and tough for studying here,working and studying together is a quite considerable question for you.

No matter where you go,life is not perfect anywhere and anytime.It is up to your belief,determination and attitude!

here, ca and usa, UK's degrees except oxford and cambridge are close to nothing, everyone knows what is happening over there like what 's going on to China Univ. education. just as you said, i rarely heared who has been shut out by UK' Univs no matter where you apply for, chia or CA, (i mean at least you can get one admission). it's a disaster to UK's high-level education. it has been ruinning her reputation.
i met some friends here, who cut across and took a UK's degree (all are MBA, wield, A?), still no job.
who can believe one-year MBA program can magically reshape a person with broke english to an english-speaking high-level talent?
if you believe, go ahead.

as my opinions, go and apply for a USA or CA unvi., forget MBA, it's the biggest degree in USA, unless you can get into the top-tip.

3.英国硕士只有一年,你需要半年语言适应期,还剩半年能学到什么东西.而且排名64的学校,将来找工作也未必好.4.英国的学费比加拿大大学要贵,生活费也贵. 5.现在IT在加拿大本来就不好找工作，等你一年后拿到学位，也未必能找到工作。6. 如果你打算以后在国内发展,拿个英国的学位倒还有用.
当然,以上建议纯属我个人观点,还得由你自己拿主意,以后后悔了可千万别怪我.

不太明白你的目标是什么？如果是为了最终在加拿大找到工作的话，学位并不是很重要的，工作经验才是最重要的，大学CS或EE毕业就足够了，是不是名牌大学也不重要，反正都不是加拿大学校毕业的。再说都工作十年了， -beautiful-life(beautiful 2003); 2003-2-24 {403} (#1059747@0)
谁还关心你是那个学校的。

个人认为：除非想做研究，大学CS或者EE毕业的人没有必要再读master，这里更看中是经验，老板要你就是为了给他干活，只要能抓老鼠就是好猫，而且为了确信你能干的好，干的快，最好你上一分工作干的是一摸一样的项目！

当然英文也很重要，你如果说不出来，谁也不知道你能不能干这份工作？

如果你喜欢继续深造的话，可以读part-time学位。

另外你的背景太杂，样样通，样样不精，再北美是很忌讳的。

继续过自己可预知最好情况（副处退休）的未来的日子．可总是担心国内的各种问题呀－环境＼生态＼资源＼经济＼政治．．．．．．

我觉得如果决定以后在国内发展，拿个英国的学位很合适，好申请且时间短，由于时间只有一年与其他国家比总费用也不高。这就是为什么国内现在去英国留学的人越来越多，英国大学挣足了中国人的钱。

去读书的好处：
1、暂时没有找工作的压力；
2、1年后，多一个选择：继续读博。
我有个朋友在英国读书，EE，去了几年了。当初也是自费读硕士，学校好像也一般般。1年后，以第1名毕业，拿到美国、英国多个学校的offer, 其中一个在英国的top10之中。最后留在英国读博，奖学金据说还不错。

另外，我那个朋友在硕士毕业到现在，周围有好几个同学、朋友来了加拿大，在加拿大找到了工作。不过是前几年的事了，现在的情况不太相同了。

去读书的坏处：
1、钱的问题：这个不用多说了；
2、工作始终要找的，硕士、博士并不一定比学士更容易找工作，特别是在加拿大，工作经验比学历重要。

我的建议：
如果你还年轻，读书是个好选择。可你现在拖家带口的，钱和时间恐怕都浪费不起了。直接来加拿大找工作是最好的选择。然后再申请加拿大的part time. 虽然辛苦，但赚钱、读书两不误。

看来关键是要＂第一名毕业毕业＂，但读博士以后是不是就只能走学术道路，进学校当老师了？ -cyj(程咬金); 2003-2-25 (#1061640@0)

What do you really want to get from studying in Britain?Just degree?

Well,in my university,you must pass all of the degree exams, then you will be qualified to write your dissertation.If your dissertation is qualified,then you will get the degree.Do you think it is easy for you?!If yes,you can think about working here to earn money.

Different perpon has different life here.For example,the 2nd term courses are selected by each student.Someone just want to pass the degree exams,then they chose comparatively simple courses.Thus,you have time to work and enjoy life,less studying stress.However,some students chose the most difficult courses since they really want to study something useful for their future career and to meet their interest.Thus,they will be very busy and face the stress to pass the degree exams.

Which one do you prefer?!If the first one,you should stay in China,it is not worthy to go abroad to get so tough life, not matter Canada or Britain.If the second one,you must prepare everything before you come here,including your English,money,perseverance,and good health.

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I am in Glasgow,so I am not sure how about in Dundee.Just for my experience here,4000 is enough.Of course,it is only for food,living and some expenses related studying,such as printing,copying,etc..If you have enough money,you would never worry about it,just concentrate in your studying.Better performance,strong skills and English will bring you much more money in the future,right?!

I must remind you,Canadian degree is much more better for job hunting in Canada than Britain degree .So,you must prepare that the first year after your graduation will be difficult for you.Never be greedy!

Some recommendation:
1.Check what you will study in that university,including courses,textbook,evaluation system.If possible,read the textbook(English or Chinese) before you come here if that course is totally new or difficult for you.You know,here we have so many additional readings excluding textbooks.So,it will lessen your stress,and you will have enough time to study deeply.

2.Bring recorder with you if your listening is not perfect,especially for your first term.

3.Keep practicing your English before you come here,reading and writing is the most important.Listening and speaking is very important for you to find a job in Canada.One year is so fast.

BTW,it is different with me,you have a family.So,anything you should discuss and prepare with your family.Frankly,going abroad is a huge decision for any family!
