My brother came to Canada in 1999. It took him 6 months to find the first job. It was so obvious that his profession was in high demand because he got interview opportunity at least once a week.

I comcluded that his experience, resume are good because most of the time when he sent a resume, people were interested in talking to him further. But at the interviews the employers were disappointed about his language skills as soon as he opened his mouth.

I would recommend new comers to go out to practice your English as much as you can. For those who are looking for labour jobs, try to do some language intensive ones regardless how much you've got paid because your Canadian dream can not be realized until your English is good enough.

Language skills are the key. The absurdity of denying immigrants job is simply because of lack of "Canadian" experience. Job experience is of equal value, regardless of geographical location.

However, a relative of mine who works in human resources at a large company tells me that he frequently rejects well-educated immigrants for jobs.

It is not because of racism or any other prejudice, or even because the immigrants have not worked in Canada previously. It is simply this: poor English-language skills.

In our increasingly knowledge-based economy, a solid understanding of at least one of Canada's official languages is necessary for most good jobs. Eradicating barriers to employment requires the efforts of both Canadian employers and immigrants.

You write excellent English, do you mind share the experience with us how did you improve English writing. It's been a barrier for me to get a promotion in the company due to poor English communication skill-writing. Treat every small opportunity seriously. Repeatly rewrite small assignment until you are satisfied. Ask your Canadian colleagues and friends to comment on your writing. Read other people's writing on similar types of topics. While reading other people's writing, pay attention to some of the sentences and writing styles that you feel useful to you.

As time passed, if you laugh at yourself when looking back your early writings, your English has improved
